The Hardest Thing....Aug 03, 2021
"It is ok to stop"
"It is ok to ask for help"
"It is ok time to find time for you"
"You deserve to feel better"
How can your health change?
Injuries can happen in an instant. You can fall over while walking, you can hurt yourself playing sport or you are involved in an accident.
Aches and pains can also build up over time, when the day to day strains you place on your body start to cause symptoms.
And sometimes you just know that you don't feel right in yourself, you feel weak in your muscles, your body feels tight, you just know you are not as healthy as you want to be.
What do these all have in common?
To get better, to feel how you really want to feel, you have to find a way to carve out time for yourself.
"Putting yourself first" to many sounds like such a selfish statement. To a lot of women that I treat just bringing this idea up can create feelings of guilt, lack of self-worth and shame. Self-care, your well-being, is just as important as everyone else's.
I often find myself discussing ways with my patients to create time, to say NO, to have boundaries, to ask someone for help.
But your not a life coach or therapist...Why are you having these conversations?
Because getting better it is often more complex than a simple stretch or acupuncture, a massage or joint manipulation.
You are not just muscle and bone, nerves and ligaments. You are a whole being, full of thoughts and emotions with a life and all the pressures that this involves.
This means having to step back and create time and space to recover. To get back to all the things you wish to enjoy. To finally start taking control over your health.
This is often the hardest part of a patients journey, which I have to support them through. Facing that moment when they realise that this is the answer to feeling their best.
It is ok to put yourself first, to think about self care and well-being. This is often the key to getting better.
